History of the Club

La Coquille Club was established in 1965 as a prestigious private member’s club offering its members a second home, office and health club in an exclusive setting right in the heart of Manalapan.

The original club offered eight meeting rooms ranging in size from the rosewood paneled Board Room that sat 22 to the theater style Atlantic Room. Also available were complete men's and women's health clubs, six clay tennis courts, game room and a large heated salt water pool overlooking the ocean. A variety of cocktail lounges, magnificent dining rooms featuring gourmet cuisine, 105 guest rooms and suites, and faultless service were all part of La Coquille Club's enviable reputation.

A local institution, the club finally closed in the eighties as old school private member’s clubs fell out of favor. After lying empty for a few years, it was proposed that the old structure be razed and the land be used for development of a new Hotel. In approving plans for the newly developed Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the Manalapan Town Commission incorporated " La Coquille Club," a modern version of the former Club of the same name. The new Club was written into the development plan and made an integral basis for town approvals of the Hotel.

The club continues to flourish with members enjoying one of the most unique clubhouses in the world.
